New Facilities, New Environment: The Jockey Club Tak Tin Integrated Vocational Rehabilitation Services Centre Opens
In 2022, the Association's Jockey Club Tak Tin Workshop received a grant of $15.98 million from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for modernisation. Upon completion of modernisation, the centre was renamed the Jockey Club Tak Tin Integrated Vocational Rehabilitation Services Centre. A naming ceremony was held on September 20th this year. Invited guests included Ms Josephine M. W. Tsui Pang, BBS, MH, Chairperson of the Association; Ms Winnie W. C. Leung, Vice-Chairperson of the Association; Ms Jacqueline W. Y. Chow, Honorary Secretary of the Association; Mr. Mason S. T. Wu, Honorary Treasurer; Mr. Edmond Y. P. Lau, Chief Executive Officer; and Ms Edith S. K. Hung, Deputy Chief Executive Officer. The ceremony also featured Mr. Taddy P. W. Leung, District Social Welfare Officer (Kwun Tong), Social Welfare Department; and Ms Chau Wan-ching, Senior Manager of the Charities of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Following the ceremony, the guests toured the Centre facilities and witnessed the trainees' product production process.
Since its opening in 1993, the Centre has provided vocational rehabilitation services to 134 people with physical disabilities and other special needs. Modernisation projects have not only optimised laundry service equipment to improve service efficiency, but also added a laundry service reception desk to provide trainees with more opportunities to interact with the public and boost their confidence. In October, the Centre will launch the "Enhancing Vocational Rehabilitation Service Plan" led by the Social Welfare Department. This project will establish a comprehensive vocational rehabilitation ladder for service users, allowing them to receive training more tailored to their abilities and interests, thereby realising their potential.
