Grateful for Strong Support, Actively Embracing Change in Ageing Services

The Fu Tung Training Centre and Hostel (the Centre), located in Tung Chung and operated by the Association, recently held the opening ceremony of the "Chill Class Training Room". Unconsciously, the Centre has established for 27 years. It was originally established to serve individuals aged 15 or above with severe intellectual disabilities. Now, as many trainees have entered the elderly stage, the Centre is preparing to launch the "Smart Ageing Programme" to address the changing needs of its aging trainees. The Chill Class Training Room is an important part of this programme.

On the day of the ceremony, many distinguished guests attended, including Mr. Nigel LO, Governor of the Rotary District 3450 and Mr. Ronnie HO, President of the Rotary Club of the Peak, along with several other representatives. They were warmly welcomed by Ms Winnie LEUNG, Vice-Chairperson of the Association, Mr. Mason WU, Honorary Treasurer, Ms Olga CHEW, Volunteer Supervisor of Fu Tung Training Centre and Hostel, Mr. Edmond LAU, the newly appointed CEO, Ms Edith HUNG, Deputy CEO, Ms Winnie HUI, Head of Adult Service, and Ms Ivy HUEN, Deputy Head of Adult Service.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a cheque and the unveiling of a plaque to express gratitude to the Rotary Club of the Peak for their generous donation of HKD 295,000 to the Association in support of the Centre’s Smart Ageing Programme and the Chill Class Training Room. In the speech of Vice-Chairperson Ms Winnie LEUNG, she sincerely thanked the Rotary Club of the Peak for their steadfast support of the Association’s services over the years, including past upgrade projects for units and facilities such as Ko Fook Iu Memorial School, B M Kotewall Memorial School, Continuing Rehabilitation Centre, and On Tai Pre-school Centre, as well as last year’s charity walk event. Ms Winnie LEUNG took this opportunity to extend her heartfelt appreciation to the Rotary Club of the Peak.

After renovation, the Chill Class Training Room now offers a larger and well-lit space, equipped with a variety of advanced training facilities. It provides trainees with a range of professional therapies, including art therapy, music therapy, exercise therapy, as well as games and sensory training. The training content even integrates elements of the "five senses," aiming to enhance trainees’ sensory functions, cognitive abilities, physical fitness, and positive emotions simultaneously. During holidays, the training room can also be transformed into a "gathering and recreational space," allowing trainees and their families to enjoy quality time together. The Association once again expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of the Peak for their strong support, and warmly welcomes other organisations and donors to support the Association, so that more resources can be secured to improve the quality and scope of services, benefiting more service users.
